The Micro Soccer (Clinic) program presented by Newport Youth Soccer Club (NYSC) is for players under the age of 7 (U6 and U7). The program is designed to introduce players to the skills and basic techniques of soccer in a fun and challenging atmosphere and create an environment for those new to soccer to develop an awareness of how to organize and implement practice sessions that are fun and challenging to the players.
Newport High School Overlay Softball fields (corner of Coal Creek & 128th)
Day: Saturday mornings
Duration: Starting first Saturday after Labor Day in September running 7 weeks
First Year U6 Clinic (Kindergarteners and/or first year players): 9am-10am
Second Year U7 Clinic (First graders and/or second year players): 10:15am-11:15am
Professional coaches oversee this program We introduce the basic rules of the game and teach foundational ball skills (dribbling and passing) to these young players. Kids can participate at their own pace as we want them to have a good first experience with soccer.
The First Year Clinic is for five year olds and children who have never played soccer ; the Second Year Clinic is for six year olds and children who have had a year of clinic.
- Six year olds who have never played before may choose either session. It is up to the parent to decide if the child would feel comfortable in Second Year Clinic with children who have already had one year of clinic.
- If you registered your five year old child for Second Year Clinic last season, he/she will have to register for Second Year Clinic again this season as a U7 player, since there are no play-ups from U7 to U8 (note that 2016 is the last year this can happen due to the age group changes)
