Hello Newport Soccer Families-

We would like to invite you to attend our Annual General Meeting for the Newport Soccer Club. Each year the club hosts a meeting to give you, our membership, the chance to hear about the past year, plan for next, and give us feedback and direction.

The AGM will be held at the Newport Swim and Tennis club (5464 119th Ave SE, Bellevue WA 98006) on Wednesday, March 30, at 6 pm. I would encourage you to attend, as there are several important items on the agenda:

  • The Club bylaws have been modified and updated
  • Coaching assignments for next year
  • New camps, clinics, and opportunities for additional training
  • Discover ways you can volunteer and help our club grow and improve

I hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Changing The Game Project Clinics

Conventional wisdom holds that youth sports are a positive experience for our children. This is not always true, says John O’Sullivan. Currently, 70% of children drop out of organized athletics by the age of 13. Youth sports has become an ultra-competitive, adult centered enterprise that has taken the “play” out of “Play ball” for far too many kids. In his talk, O’Sullivan will draw upon his research, and coaching and playing experience. You will learn:

  • How to Keep Your Kids in Sports!
  • How to Give your Child a Competitive Edge
  • To Push and Praise Your Kids to Perform Well
  • 3 Ways to Change Your Kids Sports Experience for the Better
  • How To Motivate Your Kids to Take Ownership for Sports
  • How to Help, and not Hinder, Their Performance Through the Things You Say and Do

Founder of the Changing the Game Project with two decades as a soccer player and coach on the youth, high school, college and professional levels, and author of national bestseller Changing the Game: The Parents Guide to Raising Happy, High Performing Athletes, and Giving Youth Sports Back to our Kids, John O’Sullivan is being hosted by EYSA to deliver a series of lectures/clinics on the weekend of September 25-27. We will be conducting a myriad of different 60-minute clinics in Bellevue, Mercer Island and Issaquah for parents, coaches and EYSA club board members.

You can view a recent TED talk from John O’Sullivan here OR have a look at his website here.

The most important thing you can do is to pick the session below to attend and block it out on your calendar. The content of O’Sullivan’s talks are just as relevent for youth football, baseball, basketball, lacrosse (or any other sport) as it is for soccer. Please make the time to attend and please tell your friends!

Also, please keep in mind that:

  • ALL clinics/lectures are FREE
  • You don’t have to live in the city in which the lecture is taking place in order to attend at that location.
  • The core concepts taught in all the lectures will be the same (its just that the instructor will be highlighting and dialing in certain aspects more for the different audiences), so, for example, if you’re a parent and can only make a coach session because of your schedule, please feel free to still attend; you won’t regret it.
